Concrete Flatwork and Slabs in Asheville, NC

Concrete flatwork is every horizontal concrete surface on your project, from the driveway and garage slab to patios, walkways, and commercial floors. It is also the concrete people see and use every day, which means poor concrete flatwork shows up fast through cracking, flaking, settling, and standing water. ECHO Concrete Foundations pours flatwork and slabs for residential and commercial projects across North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Virginia, with the same crews and standards behind our poured concrete foundations and the rest of our concrete services. Over our 40 plus years in the region we have completed more than 1,000 foundations along with countless flatwork pours.

Good concrete flatwork looks simple and is anything but. A slab that holds up for decades depends on what happens before any concrete arrives: a properly compacted subgrade, the right base material, correct slab thickness for the load, steel or fiber reinforcement where it is needed, and control joints placed so the slab cracks where you want it to instead of where you do not. Skip or rush any of those and the flatwork will tell on itself within a season or two. We build every slab from the ground up so it performs for the long run.

The mountains make flatwork harder than it looks. Steep grades and heavy Western North Carolina rainfall mean water management is part of every pour, not an afterthought, and a freeze and thaw climate puts any slab through constant expansion and contraction. We grade for drainage, prepare the base for the conditions on your site, and finish and cure each slab so it resists the cracking and scaling that shorten the life of flatwork poured without that care. Whether you are a builder adding flatwork to a new build or a homeowner replacing a failing driveway, ECHO delivers concrete slabs that last.

Our flatwork and slab work covers the full range of horizontal concrete:

  • Driveways and parking aprons
  • Garage slabs and basement floors
  • Patios, walkways, and sidewalks
  • Equipment and utility pads
  • Commercial and warehouse floors
  • Slab on grade foundations for residential and light commercial builds

If it is flat and it is concrete, we pour it, and we size and reinforce it for the load it will carry.

Most slab failures trace back to what is underneath, not the concrete itself. Our process is built to prevent that:

  • Subgrade compaction and a properly prepared base
  • Correct slab thickness and reinforcement matched to the load
  • Control joints placed and timed to manage where the slab cracks
  • The right mix and finish for the surface and how it will be used
  • Proper curing so the slab reaches full strength

We pour to the slab and finishing standards published by the American Concrete Institute, and we plan every job around the realities of the site rather than a one size fits all spec.

On the residential side, we pour driveways, patios, garage and basement slabs, and walkways for custom homes and renovations. On the commercial side, we pour warehouse floors, equipment pads, and slabs where flatness and load capacity matter. The same crews handle both, and the same standards apply whether the slab carries a family car or a loaded forklift.

From our offices in Asheville, NC and Johnson City, TN, we pour flatwork across four states. Drainage, base preparation, and crack control all matter more on the steep, wet, freeze and thaw sites common across this region than they do on flat ground. Decades of pouring here mean we build those conditions into the plan from the start.

  • More than 40 years pouring concrete in the region, with over 1,000 foundations complete
  • Fully insured, with liability and workers’ compensation on every project
